This jacket is a little different to my usual style but having had a few weeks between the teaser photo and the tester call going out, I didn't have to search far to see that bomber jackets are in most of the UK high street shops this season and are quickly turning into the must have wardrobe essential! They are being dressed down for daytime wear and up for the evening and everything in between, they are everywhere! With this in mind, I thought it would be a great addition to my wardrobe and definitely wanted in!! I went slightly against tradition with my jacket, going with white base colour and ribbing as opposed to the standard white or striped, however I kept the trademark metal tooth zipper and a quick Pinterest search confirmed that actually, even going white is very on trend right now! So here is my take on it! Pattern Details The Amelia Bomber jacket by Wardrobe by me is a fully lined jacket with inseam pockets and comes in sizes 30-46" (US 0-16). The pattern comes as a 42 page PDF file which includes 12 pages of illustrated instructions and 30 pattern pages. The sizes each have a different pattern style and the file includes layers. It is designed for woven fabrics and requires 1.3m/1.5y in both outer shell fabric and lining, 40cm/16" of ribbing with good recovery, 60cm/24" of interfacing and an 18" metal teeth zipper. It is very professionally drafted and rated 3/4 for sewing by an experienced seamstress. My VersionI made the size 2 using a textured cotton/linen mix, in hindsight I should have used a more stable fabric as this pulled out of shape lots whilst sewing. For the lining I used a machine washable silky dress lining to help ensure it was easy to get on and off. I used a woven fusible interfacing and some soft poly ribbing from my stash (I don't think there was any spandex content in the ribbing so I had to make the rib bands shorter to compensate for this) I estimate it took me around 5-6 hours to complete this jacket from printing to finish and will take around 3-4 for the next one. How does it fit?I think it fits me perfectly! It is very comfortable with just the right amount of ease. I've worn it with just a tank under, like in the photo above, and also with a vest, tee and thin jumper under! I actually can't even think of anything I'd change next time, it's spot on just as it is! Thank you! It uses a few more advanced skills in construction (inserting a zipper and completely lining/bagging a lining) but it did go together pretty intuitively for me.
