I've been lusting after this pattern for quite a while, putting it in and out of my cart on the New Horizons website but never truly looking at the details to see just how many options it included and never quite knowing what fabric it was asking to be made in {more on this in tomorrow's blogpost!} So when the combination of fabric, timing and pattern options fell into place I just had to try it out! If, like me, you have only been looking at the listing photo of the Telluride with the beautiful faux Henley scooped hood and not checked out all the other options, I urge you to go take a quick look, I bet you'll be as surprised as I was!
I settled on the Henley version with puff short sleeves and bottom hem with this beautiful organic 'Bling Bling' print cotton jersey from Jersey Jollies, it's a 95/5% cotton lycra mix and at 220gsm, just a little lighter than the custom jersey fabrics I've been sewing recently but equally as lovely to sew with. I washed it at 40 degrees and even tumble dried it and it had so little shrinkage I was very surprised, just 2cm in width and 3cm in length!

With well drafted sewing patterns for wovens becoming harder to find as the preferred jersey knit patterns seem to be increasing in popularity, I was happy to see Itch to Stitch's new pattern was another designed for wovens! I have to admit, I was just a little outside my comfort zone on this one as I've never worn a jumpsuit before, so I signed up for testing out the dress version only but a combination of curiosity and trust in the designer led me to trying the jumpsuit too! AND I'm glad I went with it as it's opened up a whole new avenue to explore and create with this Summer!
Earlier this week, I shared some photos of these tees I made my boys with the amazing custom Fire Scales Fabric from Rumpled Stitchings flash preorder (Closes 15th April 2017, be quick!) and had so many requests for the pattern name that I agreed to upload the templates I used along with instructions to my blog so you can make your own! My boys have literally worn these solidly since the photos were taken and I'm pretty sure your little people will love them too ;) *** PLEASE NOTE ***
It is ESSENTIAL you check your local laws and make sure they fully comply whether gifting or selling. EG. In the UK these would class as dressing up and need CE testing & marking etc and as the maker that is your responsibility. Alter the templates as needed to comply. I'm always eagerly on the look out for the next Itch to Stitch* pattern tester call as I just KNOW it's going to be amazing. Not necessarily always in design, although everybody needs the basics too, but amazing due to how brilliantly and professionally the patterns are drafted, graded, illustrated and finished! So when the call for the La Paz* came out, I admit, I squealed a little! And what can I say but WOW?! An unlined, beautifully tailored, notch collar blazer for knit fabrics with all the bells and whistles! Seriously I'm in awe of this jacket pattern, it made a garment perceived to be impossible to make at home, easily achievable for any confident experienced sewer and I just know I'll be making more.
From the very first sketch I saw of this beautiful dress in the Love Notions* newsletter, I just knew I needed the pattern! It was my first testing experience with Love Notions* and I was very impressed at how thorough their testing process went. Tami was so determined to get the fit perfect we actually went through 9 versions before getting to the final pattern! I was also super happy to be able to squeeze the bodice out of the last of the stunning Summer Garden print from Lulus Fabrics, the fabric and pattern just works so well together!
Double brushed poly, or DBP, as it's often abbreviated to, is a relatively new fabric base available to the UK market, so when I was offered the chance to sew it up and review it I was very excited! I sewed up a sample from a lovely custom fabric company, Lulus Fabrics UK, and as usual, I like to test to the max! I washed it, tumble dried it, checked for colour running, fading and shrinkage and sewed it up into various different garments to test how it sews, stretches, wears and looks! Here are my projects, thoughts and findings.... Fabric Details - So what is DBP?!When the testing call came out for this along with the Tierras Joggers, I didn't hesitate to apply, as although it's not a style I would usually go for, I haven't yet made a pattern from this designer which doesn't suit me or isn't flattering and I'm glad I did!
Far apart from my usually very fitted clothing, this is a boxy style easy wearing comfy top with a lovely overlapping envelope style boat neckline and lends itself well to such a variety of knit fabrics which change the look from anything from a drapey feminine tee to a very boxy sweater! I'm especially looking forward to wearing mine in the summer when it's really too hot to wear clothing which is extremely close fitting as well as teaming with Tierras for comfy lounge wear. A unique cross between joggers, loungewear and workwear, the Tierras Woven Joggers* have just been released from Itch to Stitch* and they are totally brilliant! I've made 2 pairs in completely different fabrics, I'll only be showing you 1 pair as they weren't final version pattern but I'll talk about them because the fabric is definitely one to consider which you may not have. I'm looking forward to wearing my Tierra's in the summer as a great alternative to dresses whilst also being light and breezy, keep an eye on my blog as I've plans to make some new tops to go with these in the upcoming weeks as well!
It's the boys turn again with these super cute tees, with options for plain or colour blocked fronts, they have gained themselves 3 tops each during testing and have already chosen and pointed out fabrics for more of them so they must get their approval! The pattern went through almost 10 version during testing to ensure the fit of the end pattern was absolutely SPOT ON. It's a great scrap buster, perfect for panels and also an all round classic essentials pattern. I loved how quickly even the colour blocked version went together. Only the pink tees are from the final version of the pattern but I wanted to show you the awesome colour blocked versions as well.
The Tami* is another fab pattern by one of my favourite designers, New Horizons*. And it is absolutely crammed with options {which I haven't even been able to scratch the surface of during this test and blog} but I definitely aim to! It also introduced me to the concept of double hoods and I can't believe how amazing they look! It really could be the only ladies hoodie pattern you ever need with the added bonus of being a great scrap buster if you make versions like mine! I made 2 in testing and would have made more if I wasn't on holiday and had been able to get the fabric delivered to where we were staying.
