I feel the cold {a lot!} and live in the not so sunny UK, so I wear jumpers and cardigans practically all year round! I don't often wear hoodie style sweatshirts as they aren't really my style so was very excited to see the sketch of this pattern release from New Horizons*, which includes 3 different cardigan styles and lengths with multiple neck options, pockets and a hood option!? It's perfect for so many outfits and situations! I'm looking forward to filling my wardrobe with LOTS of Vermont Cardigans this winter but here's my first two...

I absolutely adore this fabric, it is exactly the type of print I would be drawn to in any fabric shop so was super excited to be able to get my hands on the strike off from Second Star! Having underestimated how much fabric I needed for the pattern I had in mind, I changed my mind to raglans! I then couldn't decide whether to use the print as the front or sleeves.... so obviously I had to do both!
Sew by Pattern Pieces - Tester round up blog tour
Hi everyone, welcome to the first stop on the'Fun Tee' tester round up tour {& giveaway}! I have been secretly hoping that Lauren would release a ladies version of this tee since I saw her use the girls version in the Swhetty Betties Designer Pairs back in June.
{Apologies for photo quality, the weather has been cold and wet and after taking these photos I discovered the camera/lens needs to go in for repair :( }
Despite almost being Winter here in the UK, it has always been the gathered short sleeve design I've been drawn to most in this pattern so I knew it needed to be that version I made.
You probably already know that Itch to Stitch* is one of my absolute favourite indie pattern designers and that pretty much all of her patterns are exactly my style and very flattering for me so I always make sure to keep an extra close eye out for any tester calls! The Bonn shirt* has beautiful details, a super pretty collar and neckline and is once again totally my style for work or casual wear! I had lots of {non sewing related} hurdles to overcome during this test but I wasn't going to let any of them stop me from getting it finished albeit pushing me a day late.
EYMM Back to School Tour: Mom's Edition
My regular readers may have noticed I've been quiet around here for a few weeks, not because I haven't been sewing but because I've been so busy I haven't had time to blog about it all! We've had lots of family time and a holiday around my Brother's wedding and just making the most of the {super short} nice weather period we get here in UK!
A great kick-starter back to blogging was seeing a call for this EYMM Back to School Tour: Mom's Edition blogtour*. My children are home educated so they aren't technically 'back to school' now but still, Autumn is quickly rolling in and slowing down now from the Summer and hey, any excuse to sew something nice for myself, right? This is a first for me on my blog, it isn't so much a review of sewing patterns but of the fabric itself! I was lucky enough to be selected as a 'strike-off' sewer for this beautiful fabric to test it's properties to the max! I washed it, tumble dried it, checked for colour running, fading and shrinkage and sewed it up into various different garments to test how it sews, stretches, wears and looks! Here are my findings and finished garments with no editing to the photos to try and show as natural a representation as possible in different lighting.
Here is the Violet! A super pretty feminine pattern which includes a top and dress. I was actually asked if I'd like to test this pattern and as soon as I saw the drawing, I knew it was definitely for me, totally my style and couldn't wait to sew it up!
I promised myself a little break from testing whilst my Husband had some holiday booked, then I saw a tester call for this, whoops! It was just so me and I knew immediately which fabrics I wanted to make it in as well, I couldn't resist! It's as easy and comfortable to wear as a tank top but so much more than a tank! With optional neck ruffles and centre seam detailing it combines woven and knit fabrics to create a top which works well for both casual and smarter wear with the right fabrics. I teamed mine with both the free Lindy skirt and some linen trousers and both looks worked equally well.
Are you all feeling energetic?! No, I'm not either but this collection of 3 pocketed t-shirts from Kelly J Designs is called the Race Day Collection! My boys love pockets and I've got a love for colour blocking at the moment so these were sure to be a hit all round. So much so, I've made 2 of each final design during testing alone! My personal favourite is the 'On Your Marks' what's yours?
Last month I made a Lisse* (please click here or on the photo to see the original review and photos for this) and I really wanted to enter at least one upcycled version of each of the new horizons patterns I owned into the contest, so I went hunting around the house for something I could use to make one from. For the full Lisse pattern review please see my post HERE When I saw the upcycle challenge listed, I wanted to make something from each of the 4 new horizons patterns I owned. I quickly got searching around the house and found this lovely green knitted half waterfall cardigan which had sadly been shrunken in the tumble drier. I loved the colour but could no longer wear it, so I was quite excited to be able to reuse the fabric for the lisse*.
