I've been lusting after this pattern for quite a while, putting it in and out of my cart on the New Horizons website but never truly looking at the details to see just how many options it included and never quite knowing what fabric it was asking to be made in {more on this in tomorrow's blogpost!} So when the combination of fabric, timing and pattern options fell into place I just had to try it out! If, like me, you have only been looking at the listing photo of the Telluride with the beautiful faux Henley scooped hood and not checked out all the other options, I urge you to go take a quick look, I bet you'll be as surprised as I was! I settled on the Henley version with puff short sleeves and bottom hem with this beautiful organic 'Bling Bling' print cotton jersey from Jersey Jollies, it's a 95/5% cotton lycra mix and at 220gsm, just a little lighter than the custom jersey fabrics I've been sewing recently but equally as lovely to sew with. I washed it at 40 degrees and even tumble dried it and it had so little shrinkage I was very surprised, just 2cm in width and 3cm in length! I made the XS (pattern comes in sizes XXS-3XL) as per my measurements and apart from sewing the Henley placket on back to front {which was totally my mistake and thankfully if I don't tell people, they can't tell what I've done} it all went together perfectly and surprisingly quickly too. I used a plain black cotton lycra for the neck and sleeve bands and did need to make the sleeve bands slightly longer to compensate for the slight lack of stretch it had and make sure I felt comfortable with how snug the sleeves were. In hindsight now I've made one, next time I'll definitely use woven rather than knit interfacing on the placket as well as making the buttonholes before adding the neck binding. My sewing machine wasn't very keen on sewing the buttonholes nicely where I wanted them with the extra bulk of the neck band seam allowance getting a bit caught up under the buttonhole foot. I went with 3 small simple pearlised shanked buttons to help tie everything together. I just love the fit of this top, nicely fitted throughout and a long t-shirt length, I really must make some more versions of the Telluride, starting with the long sleeve hooded faux henley as that's what I've been eyeing up for so long but I can also see this being perfect for all my 'basic' long and short sleeve tee needs as well as trying out all the sleeve options to bring something a little different to my wardrobe.
