Sew by Pattern Pieces - Tester round up blog tour
Hi everyone, welcome to the first stop on the'Fun Tee' tester round up tour {& giveaway}! I have been secretly hoping that Lauren would release a ladies version of this tee since I saw her use the girls version in the Swhetty Betties Designer Pairs back in June.
{Apologies for photo quality, the weather has been cold and wet and after taking these photos I discovered the camera/lens needs to go in for repair :( }
Despite almost being Winter here in the UK, it has always been the gathered short sleeve design I've been drawn to most in this pattern so I knew it needed to be that version I made.
Pattern Details
The Fun Tee from Sew by Pattern Pieces is a downloadable, printable fully illustrated PDF pattern. It is for US sizes 2-22 (AU 6-26 EU 32-52) and includes different pattern pieces for cup sizes A-E so no time consuming bust adjustments to make yourself! There are 3 necklines, 4 sleeve options and also the choice of fitted or relaxed style throughout the waist and hips so something to suit every outfit. The pattern file is very comprehensive including clickable links to each part of the file, measurement instructions, size charts including how to choose which cup size you need, finished garment sizes, lengthen/shorten instructions, fabric requirements, tips for sewing with knits and more. Depending on size and style, it requires between 90cm (1 yard) and 1.7 metres (2 yards) of knit fabric with at least 50% 4 way stretch. It is rated advanced beginner although with the detail included within, in my opinion, even a fairly new beginner could take this on with great results!
My Versions
During testing, I made 2, they are both in size 4DD with the scoop neckline, gathered short sleeve and fitted styles. The first, blue swirled droplet fabric is a viscose elastane mix which is very thin and drapey and the second pastel striped version is in cotton lycra jersey from Stitch Happens and is therefore slightly thicker and less drapey. I used less than a metre of each fabric and they took me around 4 hours to make both including printing, cutting, sewing and finishing.
How do they fit?
The fun tee fits very well around my shoulders, arms and bust and just a little loose around my waist and hips which could always be taken in ever so slightly. In the final version of the pattern the bust cup sizes have been reclassified so I now fall into the 4D size which is also marginally smaller through the waist and hips (this is a very small side effect of a bust adjustment) but overall, I am really happy with the fit and will be making another in my new size this week which I'l share with you all soon!
Hopefully my Fun Tees have inspired you, don't forget to check the rest of the stops of this tour over the next few days and be sure to enter the giveaway to win yourself a copy of the latest One Thimble E-Zine and your own copy of the Ladies Fun Tee pattern at the bottom of this post and if there are any other Sew by Pattern Pieces patterns you like, maybe the girls Fun Tee? there will be a 25% off sale for Thanksgiving too using code "HOLIDAY25"
