I absolutely adore this fabric, it is exactly the type of print I would be drawn to in any fabric shop so was super excited to be able to get my hands on the strike off from Second Star! Having underestimated how much fabric I needed for the pattern I had in mind, I changed my mind to raglans! I then couldn't decide whether to use the print as the front or sleeves.... so obviously I had to do both! Stripes & Roses is part of the round 10 collection over at second star and is printed on 150cm wide 95/5% cotton lycra fabric of at least 230gsm so has a great weight and at least 50% stretch making it perfect for many jersey sewing patterns. Once I received the fabric, even before measuring it, my first thought was worry for keeping the black from running into the white in the wash! The lines are so crisp and I was concerned the wash would turn the white a little grey and lose that definition but I needn't have worried! I put a colour catcher sheet in and washed it on its own at 40 degrees then tumble dried. The colour sheet had a slight light grey tint but nothing like I expected and despite tumble drying, the fabric only shrunk 3% too! I paired the Stripes & Roses fabric with some plain thinner slightly drapier cotton lycra from Tia Knight as I wanted to make the print 'pop'. I felt it didn't need much of the print in the overall garments to achieve a couple of really pretty balanced tops so your fabric can go further too! I only had a fat half metre and as well as these 2 tops, I have enough 'scraps' for 2 CSP! The pattern I used was the Duck Butt Patterns RAWR, I didn't have time to muslin the pattern so I had to take an additional inch seam allowance on the sleeve/side seams to make it fit as well as possible without more drastic alteration. I also made the neck band slightly narrower but otherwise is as per the pattern. I will put a full post up on the pattern over the next few days for anyone interested in that including what adjustment I should have made to it to fit better.
