I feel the cold {a lot!} and live in the not so sunny UK, so I wear jumpers and cardigans practically all year round! I don't often wear hoodie style sweatshirts as they aren't really my style so was very excited to see the sketch of this pattern release from New Horizons*, which includes 3 different cardigan styles and lengths with multiple neck options, pockets and a hood option!? It's perfect for so many outfits and situations! I'm looking forward to filling my wardrobe with LOTS of Vermont Cardigans this winter but here's my first two... Pattern Details![]() The Vermont Cardigan* is a printable PDF pattern by New Horizons* for sizes XXS-3XL (29" - 51.5" bust). There are up to 36 pages to print (in different files for A4 and letter sized paper) and tape together depending on length, size, sleeve length, neck style, binding width, bottom banded or hemmed and whether you wish to print the button placement guides or not. As always with New Horizon* patterns, the Vermont* has size and finished measurement charts, print & cutting layout guides, tips for sewing with knit fabrics and are fully illustrated throughout. The pattern pieces themselves have layers and all sizes have a different line colour and style so however you're printing, it will be super easy to assemble and cut. It requires between 1m (1.125 yards) and 2.75m (3 yards) of knit fabric with at least 35% stretch and a small amount of suitable weight interfacing for the binding if you wish to add buttons/snaps to them. The only other required notion is buttons, of which you can add as few or as many as you'd like! My VersionI made 2 Vermonts during testing, both were size XS, crew neck, narrow binding and cropped length, 1 has long cuffed seeves, the other 3/4 length hemmed, everything else is the same other than fabric choice and whether I added buttons or not. The grey one above is made from a soft brushed poly sweater knit, it has a great drape and good horizontal stretch and slight vertical mechanical stretch. I used a lightweight fusible woven interfacing inside the button/buttonhole bindings and 11 1cm (3/8") faceted shaft buttons {which I totally forgot I'd have to hand sew on when I bought them!} to complete a cardigan I could wear to work or for casual. The second {gold and cream one below) is in a textured metallic poly knit with horizontal stretch only. I chose not to add buttons to this one as I'm as yet unsure what style dress I will make to go with it for Christmas so will wait to add closures once that is decided. This fabric has less drape so hangs looser all over. I used 1 metre of each fabric and they took between 2 and 4 hours to make from print to finished (if using buttons you can machine sew on, this would be at least an hour quicker!) How do they fit?I chose and made the size based on my measurements and feel they fit really well overall. I prefer a slightly closer fit under my arm in this style of cardigan usually o may adjust that slightly next time but it's not a big deal and looks OK as is. The length is spot on for me without adjustments and sits roughly around my high hips. Both Vermonts I made are pretty fitted when done up, so if you are looking for a more relaxed fit, maybe try sizing up a little. Tester InspirationFor inspiration from other testers, in different sizes and fabrics, see the pattern listing photos HERE* Project CostFull price pattern - (£9.50) $11.95 - I received the pattern for free in return for testing Fabric Cost - £6 ($7.54) Notions & Thread - £3.50 ($4.40) Total Cost for BOTH - £19 ($23.87 USD) Cost to make each additional around £10 ($12.57) The Vermont* is on release sale for $7.50 (£5.97) until midnight 13th December (MST timezone) only! The Verdict!I absolutely LOVE this cardigan and I'll definitely be making more in both the cropped style and the longer length v-neck style. I can also get the buttoned up cardigan on without undoing any buttons, so hopefully I'll get a chance to 'hack' it to be able to make a nice fitted jumper as well, potentially opening up even more versatility from this 1 pattern!
