I promised myself a little break from testing whilst my Husband had some holiday booked, then I saw a tester call for this, whoops! It was just so me and I knew immediately which fabrics I wanted to make it in as well, I couldn't resist! It's as easy and comfortable to wear as a tank top but so much more than a tank! With optional neck ruffles and centre seam detailing it combines woven and knit fabrics to create a top which works well for both casual and smarter wear with the right fabrics. I teamed mine with both the free Lindy skirt and some linen trousers and both looks worked equally well.
Pattern Description
It is the Vienna Tank* and is for sizes 00-20 (31-46 inch bust) from Itch to Stitch* It is a 30 page fully illustrated PDF pattern which requires printing of just 13 pattern pages for all sizes which just need trimming and lining up of quarter circles in the corners to assemble. It has layers, as well as using different colours and line styles for each size. There are 2 views included, view A has little ruffles around the neckline and makes a feature of the centre seam allowance by bringing it to the front of the top, the second is the slightly more streamlined view B with no neck ruffles and centre front seam allowance hidden. The Vienna is rated as an intermediate sew due to combining knit and woven fabrics, making and attaching bias binding and optional neck ruffles and top stitching the jersey around the centre front seam. You'll need between 70 and 110cm of knit fabric and 60-70cm of woven contrast fabric depending on the size. As with theZamora, this pattern is expertly drafted and very professionally presented by Kennis from Itch to Stitch*
My Version
I made the size 0 View B with no modifications or adjustments. I used around 75cm of the circle print jersey for the main body, this is a nice drapey viscose elastane mix and around half a metre of 100% cotton poplin for woven yoke and binding as it has a join in the binding at the centre back. It went together nice and simply and took around 3 hours due to the making of the bias binding. It would be quite a bit quicker to make if using ready made bias binding!
How Does it Fit?
I like the fit as it is, the shoulders are a nice width, the armscye fits without being too snug or too coming too low under the arm, the length of the ties feels perfect to hang loose or be tied in a little bow, the gathering above the bust allows the jersey to flow nicely over the bust and it falls to around my high hip which is as intended by the designer. When making more, I will lengthen the body by around a inch as I like my tops slightly longer but that is personal preference.
